The number of Americans filling for unemployment benefits was 0.853 million in the week ended December 5th, compared to 0.712 million in the previous week. Today’s reading came in above market expectations of 0.725 million. It iss the highest number since mid-September amid rising COVID-19 cases and new lockdowns across the country.
Continuing claims reading, which lags initial jobless claims data by one week, reach 5757 million, while analysts expected a drop to 5.335 million. Today’s reading still remain much above 1.7 million average reported before the pandemic.
Annual inflation rate in the US was unchanged at 1.2% in November and slightly above market expectations of 1.1%.
Core consumer prices in the United States increased 1.60 % in November over the same month in the previous year.
