First US polling stations opened at 11:00 am GMT today and voting in some states will not be over before 6:00 am GMT on Wednesday. However, it does not mean that we will have to wait that long to find out who is likely to win elections. Early results from states should be out as soon as voting is over and results from battleground states could be enough to call a winner. Below you can find closing times of poll stations in key 2020 battleground states:
-
Florida - 12:00 am GMT
-
Ohio - 12:30 am GMT
-
Pennsylvania - 1:00 am GMT
-
Michigan - 1:00 am GMT
-
Wisconsin - 2:00 am GMT
-
Arizona - 2:00 am GMT
Florida and Pennsylvania are unquestionably the most important swing states as they hold the highest amount of electoral votes, 29 and 20 respectively. There is a high chance that elections' winner may be called around 1:00 am GMT on Wednesday when early results from these states are reported. Michigan will also be on watch after Trump managed to win it by just 0.2% in 2016 (Democrats won Michigan in 6 previous elections). If those states do not hint at a strong lead of either candidate, markets may have to wait until after 2:00 am GMT for early results from Wisconsin and Arizona.
