Bitcoin jumps above $30,000
European indices launched today's cash session higher following an upbeat Asian session earlier in the day. Indices from Asia-Pacific booked decent gains today with Nikkei, Kospi and S&P/ASX 200 all gaining over 1%. Indices from China lagged and traded lower but the scale of declines was limited. AUD is trading higher after Australia and China reached agreement on barley exports and suspended the dispute at WTO. Cryptocurrencies are trading higher with Bitcoin jumping above the $30,000 mark for the first time since June 2022.
Economic calendar for the day ahead is light with only some second-tier European data and API report on US oil inventories scheduled for release. While the API report may trigger some short-term volatility on oil, today's data from Europe seldom triggers any moves. Apart from data releases, investors will also be offered speeches from 2 Fed members (Goolsbee and Harker) and 1 ECB member (Villeroy). Things get more interesting later into the week, especially tomorrow with US CPI data and FOMC minutes.
