Siemens Healthineers (SHL.DE) loses sharply after quarterly results
Wednesday's trading session on the European markets brings better sentiment among investors who were pleased by the lower US inflation reading. The German DAX (DE30) is recording slight gains today and has broken above the psychological level of 16,000 points. Investors' attention is primarily focused today on the CPI inflation reading from the USA, which fell. Investors involved in the oil market will also learn about weekly data on inventories of this commodity and other petroleum products in the USA. The inflation report from Germany for April fell in line with analysts' expectations.

The shares of Brenntag (BNR.DE) are posting slight rises today following the publication of better-than-expected quarterly results. The increase in EBITDA, which came in at EUR 420.4 million (forecast at EUR 399.4 million), caught investors' attention in particular. However, sales levels failed to beat the analyst consensus of €4.63 billion (actual reading: €4.53 billion). The company did not change its full-year forecasts (EBITDA in the range of €1.3bn - €1.5bn). The year 2023 is expected to remain challenging for the company's business environment.

The shares of Siemens Healthineers (SHL.DE) fared much worse today, with nearly 7.4% declines at the time of writing. The reason for such large sell-offs is the weaker-than-expected quarterly results, in particular weakness in the diagnostics sector and lower margins. The company views the future outlook for adjusted EBIT and diagnostics revenue with uncertainty. Nevertheless, adjusted EPS is expected to remain between €2-2.2; analysts had forecast €2.05.
