- European indices set to open flat
- Biden-Xi meeting seen as positive and optimistic
- Second-tier data from US, central bankers' speeches
European index futures point to a more or less flat opening of the cash session on the Old Continent today. Talks between US President Biden and Chinese President Xi on the APEC summit have been labeled 'positive' with the two leaders discussing a number of issues, including Ukraine, Taiwan and the Middle East. However, remarks coming from Biden and Xi after the meeting were somewhat general and vague, and therefore we are not seeing any major reaction in the markets.
Economic calendar for the day ahead is light. There are no macro readings scheduled for the European morning, while some second-tier US data, like jobless claims or Philly Fed index, will be released in the early afternoon. A point to note is that there are a number of speeches from central bankers scheduled throughout the day and those may provide some FX volatility.
