Kratos Defense & Security Solutions (KTOS.US) has performed the first successful static test of the Zeus 1 rocket engine at the Aerojet Rocketdyne (AJRD.US) facility. Kratos intends to respond to demand for new units called SRM engines for missiles carrying research vehicles and hypersonic and ballistic missiles.
- The company has a program to develop Zeus SRM units. The engine family was designed and manufactured by Aerojet Rocketdyne. The Zeus engines are expected to be much more efficient and cost-effective than the previous generation of SRM units. The target is also to enable integration of additional systems from Kratos.
- The ongoing program is a prelude to a broader iniciativa related to the Erinyes hypersonic test vehicle, which is expected to have a debut in Q1 2024. The company, as one of the Pentagon's leading partners, is also developing the Dark Fury hypersonic sytem, whose specifications remain top secret.
- Kratos also intends to revolutionize the military's UAV and XQ-58 Valkyrie aircraft programs by integrating AI systems - without the necessity of external communications and GPS.
