Better-than-expected jobs data from UK
European index futures are pointing to a more or less flat opening of today's cash session for major blue chip indices from the Old Continent. DAX futures currently trade less than 10 points above yesterday's cash close. Energy commodities trade little changed while precious metals drop under pressure of stronger US dollar. Cryptocurrencies are taking a hit, declining all across the board.
Economic calendar for the day ahead is light and a key macro data of the day - UK jobs report for August - has already been released. It showed the unemployment rate dropping from 3.6 to 3.5% (exp. 3.6%) and wage growth accelerating from 5.5 to 6.0% YoY (exp. 5.9% YoY). In spite of data coming in better than expected, GBP failed to see any major reaction. While there are no major economic releases scheduled for the later part of the day, there are a number of speeches scheduled from members of major central banks, including BoE Governor Bailey, SNB Chairman Jordan or ECB Chief Economist Lane.
