DP World has made a significant achievement at Jebel Ali Port, where the port set a new record in container handling in July 2024 by surpassing 1.4 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). This success reflects the port's strong performance and its crucial role in supporting regional and international trade.
In the first half of 2024, Jebel Ali Port demonstrated exceptional performance, handling 7.3 million TEUs, an increase of 3.9% compared to the previous year. This growth is attributed to the increased flow of shipments from major Asian markets such as China, Japan, and South Korea.
The Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) plays a key role in boosting trade and diversifying the economy, currently hosting around 10,500 global companies. This enhances JAFZA’s position as a preferred destination for businesses and increases trade volume through the port.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World, stated that Jebel Ali Port is a cornerstone of the group’s global port network and significantly contributes to achieving Dubai’s economic vision and enhancing regional trade. Additionally, Abdullah bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World in the GCC, noted that the new record reflects the group’s commitment to excellence in global trade and boosts future growth opportunities.
Globally, DP World achieved a 6.8% increase in container handling during the first half of 2024, with a total of 42.58 million TEUs. UAE initiatives to enhance bilateral trade through comprehensive economic partnership agreements contribute to increasing trade volume, indicating potential for further growth in container traffic through Jebel Ali Port in the future.
