- Futures point to sharply higher opening of European cash session
- Euro gains after Exit Poll results of first round of French parliamentary elections
- Investors will turn their attention today to CPI data from Germany and PMI reports
Market sentiment seems to be improving at the start of the new trading week, largely related to the results of the 1st round of the French elections. At this point, it appears that after the second round, any of the political parties/alliances will achieve an absolute majority in parliament, lowering fears of another stalemate in French politics. The Popular Front has called for alliances ahead of the second round of voting next Sunday to block the far-right Le Pen party from winning an outright majority and forming a government.
In addition to reactions to the election (particularly the banking sector), investors' attention will also turn to CPI data from Germany and final PMI data for June. A little later, investors will also listen to a speech by Christine Lagarde.
